"Playing with Bolas in the Park"
|
If this picture were a movie it would be a subtle love story, not an actioneer. These two lovers have come out into the park to play with their bolases. They are not too wonderful at it and try showing off to each other and to all comers too much. Leibniz figured that everything was predestined, but that no two things (objects, atoms, people) actually meet, they just coincide. But he never swung a bolas or galloped after runaway steers on the Pampas. If so, the world might have had a more sensible philosophy. Maybe these two, who are students, know plenty about Leibniz and could tell us heaps of stuff about him, so we could learn about Leibniz, but maybe not about life. Huh! There is not so much to say about the bolas, or maybe a lot more. As their wrists set their bolases swinging, whirring, they glance at each other and in each glance there is bravado and also a restrained love exposed in the momentary break of concentration. So they have not declared themselves yet. Tonight perhaps? |
