Black is the new black. Aix-en-Provence is a great town for people-watching, especially for dedicated followers of fashion. As soon as I arrived there I was aware, in my peripheral vision, of many young women in smart black dresses, like sensual ghosts, or an army of alien girls in black come looking for Cezanne a 100 years too late, or female crows allowed to be girls for the day and choosing, of course, to stride about in crow black dresses or black tops and jeans. In the vibrant sunshine of the south of France, they were a contrary brilliance to the yellows and reds and greens of the day. As you see, they were in many different moods - but not in all moods, because there are moods they no longer feel and moods they haven't had yet. These three have never met, but the two on the right will be firm friends if they ever do. The girl on the left is a solitary.
