I have spent plenty time walking up, down and across Canada and have seen bears, moose, everything that walks or crawls.  But this was the first porcupine I saw in the wild.  I arrived at Lake Louise at dusk in Novemeber and walked in a blizzard past the lake towards the Victoria glacier.  I met him on a pathway as he began his nocturnal ramblings.  I watched him for 20 minutes before he trundled grumpily away in the snows.

This drawing is one of 150 I made in my notebook during a month in the Rockies. See Gone Wild in the Rockies for more of them.
